The rheological behaviour of NIMONIC 115 superalloy was modeled using two empirical models, based on an analytical/phenomenological approach and on the use of an Artificial Neural Network. In order to give the high strain levels typical of hot metal working operations, flow curves were obtained by means of torsion tests, performed in extended ranges of temperature (1100-1180°C) and strain rate (0.01-1 s-1). The predictive capabilities of the developed models, in terms of the mean absolute error, were compared to each other and the result were analysed in detail.

Abstract

The rheological behaviour of NIMONIC 115 superalloy was modeled using two empirical models, based on an analytical/phenomenological approach and on the use of an Artificial Neural Network. In order to give the high strain levels typical of hot metal working operations, flow curves were obtained by means of torsion tests, performed in extended ranges of temperature (1100-1180°C) and strain rate (0.01-1 s-1). The predictive capabilities of the developed models, in terms of the mean absolute error, were compared to each other and the result were analysed in detail.
