On 6 April 2009, at 3.32 am, an earthquake registered 6.3 magnitude on the Richter scale struck L’Aquila and its neighboring territories, causing heavy material and immaterial damages. Starting from the discussion on the L’Aquila case, this contribution focuses on the strategies for supporting and managing the process of social reconstruction of meanings developed by communities affected by a disaster. The role of the Internet and the support of ICT-based artifacts will be also discussed and, in particular, an innovative information system implemented in the aftermath of the L’Aquila earthquake, denoted EagleVox, will be described.
