The volume gathers some of the papers presented at the Internationl Conference "East Asia. Cross-cultural, scientific and economic exchanges. Historical perspectives, topical issues, programmes, and projects for sustainable developments", held at eCampus University in Novedrate (Como) on 18-19 June 2015, complemented by external contributions from scholars and professionals operating in East Asia. The book has been realized in the context of a growing interest on East Asia in cultural and scientific terms, and from an economic and social viewpoint as well. It collects a wide variety of topics, considered from an interdisciplinary perspective, referring to cross-cultural exchanges within and outside East Asian area. Two relevant aspects emerge from the book: 1) East Asian cultural contribution and exchange in history, art, literature, and in some practical domains, such as design, cinema, fashion, sports; 2) the economic and scientific exchange and the contribution of East Asian countries in some specific fields, such as green economy, comparative law, and in scientific sectors as engineering, physics, maths, with an emphasis on research, innovation and technological transfer and cooperation on sustainability and global development.
