This study intends to emphasise the importance of accurate palaeographic and codicological analyses within different fields of research, specifically within a study of musicological interest. Two case studies from the recent survey conducted by the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis on the Libroni della Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano, which preserve, along with other compositions, the musical production of chapel master Franchino Gaffurio (1451-1522), are presented. The illustrated case studies concern the identification of the compositional blocks within Librone 1 and the stratigraphy of Maestro Franchino Gaffurio's interventions over the years. The combination of codicological-palaeographic, textual and documentary elements has made it possible to reconstruct the complex activity of the 'Gaffurian workshop', but also to gain new insights into the manner in which the musical codices were set up and used.

Abstract
The combination of codicological-palaeographic, textual and documentary elements has made it possible to reconstruct the complex activity of the 'Gaffurian workshop', but also to gain new insights into the manner in which the musical codices were set up and used.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
