The paper deepens an exploratory study conducted at eCampus University. The main objectives were to detect students’ opinions about their formative process and to investigate the perceived effectiveness of some instructional strategies in promoting engagement in online learning. The use of engaging strategies was recognized as discriminating for meaningful experiences. However, students sometimes prefer a computer-automated approach while recognizing its failings in affective and relational issues.
