In this paper, I take inspiration from Leon Festinger’s theory of cognitive dissonance to discuss the case of rich egalitarians. The main question of the paper is: if one professes a material egalitarianism, how is it possible for him to be richer than the others? Is there an incompatibility? In order to address these questions, I inquiry into four hypotheses and try to verify if the apparent dissonant behaviour can be somehow resolved.
