The financial system plays an active role in reducing social inequalities by expanding access to financial services for vulnerable individuals and combating financial exclusion. Women are among the most affected, having historically encountered a series of gender issues that have further distanced them from the social, economic, and financial world in which they live. This paper aims to address the issue of gender inequality in the financial system by examining the principle of equality between women and men enshrined in Article 23 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union. After a brief examination of financial inequality, which leads to the definition of unbankable individuals, the paper focuses on the right to gender equality, highlighting current trends and the contributions that can be identified for addressing the gender gap in the financial system.
