Punteggiatura e coordinazione sintattica: il caso dei puntini di sospensione e della lineetta singola

This paper aims to analyze the emphatic uses of the ellipsis and of the single dash combined with the conjunction e ‘and’ in modern Italian. We will propose an empirically-based description of the textual effects produced by both punctuation marks in micro-syntactic and macro-syntactic coordination. We will show that they both contribute to the hierarchization of information in the text, albeit in different ways: the ellipsis has an interactive meaning and causes the element that it isolates to be indirectly highlighted, whereas the dash has an informational meaning and acts directly on the information structure of the text.

Questo lavoro intende analizzare gli usi enfatizzanti dei puntini di sospensione e della lineetta singola in combinazione con la congiunzione e nell’italiano contemporaneo. Proporremo, a partire da esempi autentici, una descrizione degli effetti prodotti dai due segni in coordinazioni micro-sintattiche e macro-sintattiche. Mostreremo che i due segni partecipano alla gerarchizzazione dell’informazione da prospettive diverse: i puntini hanno una sostanza interattiva e producono una messa in rilievo indiretta dell’elemento isolato; la lineetta ha invece una sostanza informativa e agisce direttamente sulla struttura informativa del segmento testuale.
