This study focuses on the history and iconography of the tondo painted by Giulio Carlini for the ceiling of the Aula Magna in Palazzo Bo, the historical seat of the University of Padua. The rediscovery of the preparatory studies has made it possible to reconstruct te input of the various figures involved in the hall’s decoration, from conception to the final result. The study also aims to investigate the identity-related projections of the academic and political governing bodies on the University’s most representative space, along the historical crest marked by the Risorgimento battles for the liberation of the Lombardy-Veneto region from Habsburg control.
