By means of analysis of wide and, so far, little examined archival documentation, the essay reconstructs the history of the midwifery school in Novara in the first half of the nineteenth century. According to the directions of recent educational historiography, this work does not restrict its reconstruction of the school organization to the historical-institutional viewpoint, but also it draws attention to its teaching practice, using authentic sources , such textbooks, educational instruments, regulations and teaching projects
Attraverso l’analisi di un’ampia e sinora poco indagata documentazione archivistica, il saggio ricostruisce la storia della scuola per levatrici di Novara nella prima metà del XIX secolo. Sulla scorta delle indicazioni della recente storiografia educativa, il lavoro non si limita a ricostruire l’organizzazione scolastica sotto il profilo storico-istituzionale, ma pone l’attenzione anche sulla prassi didattica, utilizzando fonti originali, quali libri di testo, strumenti didattici, regolamenti e progetti per l’insegnamento
