Starting from a specific case- study (the reflection on the in- choative suffix of Latin verbs), the article proposes a path among Latin grammars composed between the end of the 14th and the 15th century, focusing in particular on texts by Francesco da Buti, Guarino Veronese, Niccolò Perotti, Lorenzo Valla, and Aldo Manuzio. The aim is to show the complexity of humanistic grammatical reflection on Latin language, which combines ancient and medieval analyses with new discoveries.
