In this paper we propose a classification of associative anaphora between event-denoting expressions, from a semantic interpretation of the link holding between the anaphor and its antecedent. Specifically, we examine the anaphoric relation in terms of the interaction between two distinct parameters: temporal structure and inherent lexical semantic content. We characterize each class in terms of a multi-layered lexical representation based on Generative Lexicon theory.

Abstract

In this paper we propose a classification of associative anaphora between event-denoting expressions, from a semantic interpretation of the link holding between the anaphor and its antecedent. Specifically, we examine the anaphoric relation in terms of the interaction between two distinct parameters: temporal structure and inherent lexical semantic content. We characterize each class in terms of a multi-layered lexical representation based on Generative Lexicon theory.
